KARACHI, Sindh: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government will launch the Sindh Pink Taxi Scheme for women under its electric vehicle transport initiative.
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Memon said the EV Pink Taxi Scheme would follow the Pink Scooter Scheme, launched by the provincial government to support women’s mobility.
He said the planned pink taxi fleet would serve women passengers and form part of the Sindh government’s wider transport reforms. The government will share further details of the project soon, he added.
Memon said authorities had instructed traffic police to act against men found riding pink scooters issued to women under the provincial scheme.
“We have received complaints that some women’s brothers are using the scooters, and necessary instructions have been issued to address the matter,” Memon told the assembly.

The minister said Sindh became the first province in Pakistan to introduce electric buses. He defended the limited initial distribution of pink scooters, saying only 150 women held driving licences when the scheme began.
He said around 25,000 women had now applied for driving licences after the launch of the Pink Scooter Scheme.

“Even if 100,000 women obtain licences, it is our responsibility to provide them with scooters,” Memon said, describing the programme as a women’s empowerment measure.
Memon also said the Sindh Revenue Board recorded 24 per cent revenue growth, compared with 10 per cent growth by the Federal Board of Revenue.
