Services export up 53pc in Feb

Islamabad: Export of services grew by 53.47 per cent year-on-year in February 2015 to $1.022 billion from $665.94 million, the highest monthly growth recorded in this fiscal year so far, suggested data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday.

The export of services in January 2015 witnessed a negative growth of 1.83pc.

During the first eight months (July-Feb) of 2014-15, the export proceeds went up to $4.226bn from $3.442bn in the same period last year, an increase of 22.78pc. The imports also grew by 1.73pc to $5.351bn from $5.260bn in July-Feb 2013-14.

However, the import of services witnessed a negative growth of 16.11pc in February 2015 from a year ago.

Mainly due to the increase in exports, trade deficit in services also declined by 38.13pc to $1.124bn in July-Feb 2014-15 from $1.817bn in the same period last year.

During the fiscal year 2013-14, the import of services stood at $7.795bn compared to $8.205bn in the previous year, down by 4.99pc.
