FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau overhauled its technology systems and expanded its use of artificial intelligence to more than 140 cases to speed responses to threats.
Patel told Fox News Digital that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses AI to scan databases and process tips from the public and private-sector partners.
The system sends leads to field offices and headquarters in Washington, he said. Previously, tips could pass through lengthy manual communication channels.
Patel said the new system can ingest and analyse information immediately, helping personnel respond faster to threats such as terrorist plots and school shootings.
The FBI had only two or three AI test use cases when Patel took charge, he said. It has now surpassed 140 use cases.

Patel described AI as “a human supplement rather than a replacement”. He said the bureau would continue using the technology within legal limits and with safeguards in place.

He also cited threats from China and Russia as reasons for strengthening the FBI’s technology and cybersecurity capabilities. The source does not detail specific AI-enabled threats from either country.
