The Senate Standing Committee on Interior recently convened to review legislation targeting individuals engaged in black magic and related practices.
Chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem, the session featured a bill introduced by Senator Samina Mumtaz to penalise those involved in black magic, proposing a seven-year sentence for offenders, including advertisers.
During the discussion, Senator Irfan Siddiqui expressed concerns about defining the scope of black magic, noting the frequent appearance of such advertisements in newspapers and the potential for escalating practices.
Responding, Senator Mumtaz highlighted the destructive impact of black magic on society. When Senator Siddiqui called the issue delicate, Senator Mumtaz affirmed her readiness to tackle it.
Senator Mumtaz clarified that activities often mistaken for black magic, like reciting prayers at specific sites, are unrelated to nefarious practices.
Adding to the debate, Senator Mumtaz shared a disturbing instance where a practitioner demanded the blood of a murdered child. Senator Siddiqui emphasized the challenge of legally defining black magic before enacting new legislation.
In related news, Pakistani actor Feroze Khan’s mother recently disclosed that her family suffered disturbances attributed to black magic. She described finding objects like needles in lemons and strange amulets at home, which she linked to illnesses affecting her son and husband, as well as unusual behavioural changes in Feroze.
