With a rich diplomacy background, Urbom recently served as the Office Director at the Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he managed bilateral relations with several countries in the region, according to an official statement.
His previous roles included deputy director of the Office of Korean Affairs, deputy political chief at the American Institute in Taiwan, and DPRK unit chief.

Before entering the Foreign Service, he enhanced global education as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English in Kazakhstan. Urbom is an alumnus of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and holds master’s degrees from Harvard University and the National War College.
He is joined in Karachi by his wife, Sonia, a retired US diplomat and teacher, and their two college-aged daughters.
As he begins his tenure, Urbom commemorates the 77th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the US and Pakistan, aiming to fortify this strong relationship.
The statement added that he stresses the significance of boosting economic investment, trade cooperation, and implementing the Green Alliance framework to benefit both nations and improve connections between the people of the US and those in Sindh and Balochistan.
