Samjhauta Express resumed once again

India will resume the Samjhauta Express from Thursday onwards, a week after the train service was suspended over security concerns, officials said in a statement issued earlier today.

The train will depart from Lahore for India on schedule on Thursday morning, officials said.

Last week, Indian authorities had denied entry to the Samjhauta Express train at the Wagah border and turned it back over security concerns in light of protests by farmers in Indian Punjab.

Indian railway officials had told Pakistan Railways officials that farmers were protesting in the country and that there were fears of an attack on the train service.

The suspension of the train service had caused inconvenience to more than 200 passengers from Pakistan and India.

Between 200 and 300 passengers travel to and from India on board the Samjhauta Express on a daily basis, but the number of passengers rises when Indian Sikh pilgrims use the train service to visit their holy sites in Pakistan.
