LAS VEGAS: Metallica frontman James Hetfield told Sphere fans on October 10 that the band’s agenda was “love, energy and heavy music, baby”. He urged them to set aside outside concerns.
Attendees filmed his remarks and shared clips on social media. Hetfield delivered the message during the band’s residency at the venue.
Before discussing Metallica’s approach, he thanked fans for making the trip. He acknowledged the money they had spent, their travel arrangements and the time they had committed to attending.
He told the audience that fans who lived elsewhere had come a long way to spend time with the band. Hetfield appreciated that effort and welcomed them to the celebration.
He contrasted Metallica’s approach with entertainers who seek to influence audiences. He framed the concert as a chance to set everyday concerns aside and focus on the music.
Hetfield named no artists or political causes.
In a 2016 BBC interview while promoting “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct”, he explained why Metallica avoided politics and religion. He said those subjects could deepen divisions among listeners.
He recognised that the band’s members held their own beliefs. However, he said they shared the aim of connecting with people through music.
Metallica’s “Life Burns Faster” residency began this month. Its paired Thursday and Saturday performances follow a format in which the band does not repeat songs across each weekend’s shows.

The band says Sphere’s immersive technology supports the residency’s visual and sound production.
Metallica’s next Sphere concerts are scheduled for Thursday and Saturday. The residency continues through March 13, 2027.
