A study by researchers suggests that radio signals could potentially allow alien life forms to detect humanity’s presence on Earth.
The Sun revealed that people use radio-transmitting devices, like mobile phones and satellite communication services, to emit signals.
These radars and radios give off high-frequency signals that can reach space.
A team of scientists at the University of Manchester conducted research by simulating the radio leakage from cell towers based on crowdsourced data.
The study revealed that developing countries, including those in Africa, significantly influence the Earth’s mobile radio footprint.
The team expressed enthusiasm about this finding, underscoring these countries’ successful leapfrog into the digital era.
Leading the research team, Professor Mike Garrett said, “I have often disagreed with many colleagues who have stated that the Earth is progressively becoming more radio-silent.”
“While it’s accurate that we have fewer strong TV and radio transmitters nowadays, the global spread of mobile communication systems is remarkable.”
He contended that despite each system having relatively low radio powers, the cumulative “spectrum of billions of these devices” is considerable.
He noted, “Current projections suggest that we will have more than 100,000 satellites in low-Earth orbit and further by the decade’s close.”
“Given that the Earth is already notably radiant in the radio part of the electromagnetic spectrum, we might become easily identifiable to any advanced civilizations if this trajectory persists.”
He holds the belief that advanced civilizations may exist elsewhere in the universe.
Dr. Nalini Heeralall-Issur, an associate professor at the University of Mauritius, stated, “I am confident that there is a fair chance advanced civilizations exist, and some could be capable of detecting the radio signals produced by humans on Earth.”
