PESHAWAR: Activists of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) blocked a portion of Peshawar-Islamabad motorway on Sunday in protest against the assassination of the party leader Maulana Khalid Mehmood Soomro.
The protest blocked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak’s convoy that was heading to Islamabad to attending his party’s rally.
A large number of religious party workers, carrying sticks, stones and party flags in their hands, rallied from Peshawar city to the motorway and blocked it with rocks and burning tyres.
The protest demonstration created traffic mess on the highway at Swabi Interchange for several hours as police contingents arrived at the scene to control the situation.
