The Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz agreed to form a government in Gilgit-Baltistan under a power-sharing arrangement announced Friday, the PPP said.
Under the proposed formula, the Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister’s office will go to the PPP. The governor’s post will be held by the PML-N.
The PPP said both parties reached the decision through mutual consensus after their organisations finalised the formula through consultations.
The arrangement also gives the opposition leader’s office in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly to PML-N, along with the deputy speaker’s post.
PML-N Gilgit-Baltistan President Hafeezur Rehman later said his party would vote for the PPP’s candidate for leader of the house and speaker. He spoke at a press conference with PPP leaders.
PPP Gilgit-Baltistan President Amjad Hussain Advocate said Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would decide matters linked to any alliance with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party.

The announcement came a day after the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan notified successful candidates in 21 of 24 constituencies. Results for GBA-9 Skardu-3, GBA-15 Diamer-1 and GBA-17 Diamer-3 will be announced later.
The PPP emerged as the largest party with nine seats, followed by PML-N with six and IPP with four. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen won one seat, while one independent candidate also succeeded, according to the notified results.
The IPP’s four seats came after four independent candidates joined the party during a June 16 meeting with Communications Minister and IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan.
