Punjab police and the power authorities have removed transformers from Mubeen Arif Jutt, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA), home and office in Gujranwala.
The authorities have allegedly taken action following his electoral victory over the former federal minister of PML-N, Khurram Dastgir Khan, who has reportedly faced pressure to switch allegiances from Imran Khan.
Osama Mela, a fellow PTI MNA, criticized this measure, pointing out that it contravened existing orders from the Lahore High Court. He highlighted that the MNA’s residence, office, and export factory were targeted, a move he described as detrimental to local economic interests.
Mela accused Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of undermining export units because certain MNAs remained loyal to their party while paradoxically courting foreign investment. He vowed that those behind this “thuggery” would be held accountable.
Maliha Hashmi also weighed in on the incident, questioning the inconsistency in the Prime Minister’s approach to governance. She argued that seeking international investment while simultaneously oppressing local business owners who provide substantial employment in Pakistan sends conflicting signals.
Hashmi lamented the significant impact these actions have on the livelihoods of many, equating the shutdown of the factory to the careless pressing of a button on Twitter. She called for a more humane governance approach, urging respect for the oppressed whose plight, she noted, is known directly to their Creator.
