The police reply came in response to a contempt application against senior police officials by two lawyers demanding bulletproof car for the former CJP.
The lawyers, Sheikh Ahsanuddin and Taufiq Asif, had filed a contempt application against Islamabad Police IG, DIG and SSP (operation) for allegedly withdrawing one of the vehicles of security squad along with guards provided to Chaudhry on February 16.
The police, however, denied the allegation and informed the court that the vehicle had stopped suddenly near Melody Market due to a fault in the engine.
Police said the information was conveyed to the department concerned and also entered into the daily police diary.
The vehicle, police said, was taken to the police lines and was sent back to ex-CJP’ house after maintenance on February 19.
In their reply, the police said they could not “dare to think about disobeying the directions of the honourable court”.
The reply also revealed that a total of 15 policemen had been deployed for the protection of the former CJP following his retirement.
IHC division bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Aamer Farooq has already reserved verdict in the federal government’s intra-court appeal for reclaiming the bulletproof car provided to the former CJP.
