Police has claimed to arrest five more accused in the murder of Farzana Parveen outside Lahore High Court (LHC). Farzana Parveen was recently bludgeoned to death with bricks by her relatives, outside the LHC because she had married the man of her choice.
Lahore police officials said five more persons have been arrested in the case, taking total number of arrested persons to 10.
The arrested accused were being questioned, police said.
Police had earlier arrested five suspects including the victim’s father, her cousins and others.
The brutality of the case, and the fact that it happened in broad daylight outside one of Pakistan’s top courts drew international condemnation, including from the United Nations.
Many conservative families in Pakistan consider it shameful for a woman to fall in love and choose her own husband. Refusal to accept arranged marriages frequently results in “honour killings”.
