LAHORE: Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was transferred from Kot Lakhpat Jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology on Wednesday after heart-related discomfort, her lawyer said.
Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar said doctors were conducting initial medical tests. Niazi, 70, had experienced the discomfort while detained at the prison in Lahore, Punjab.
Writing on X, Umar alleged that authorities had not informed any family member about her transfer.
Niazi and her sister, Dr Uzma Khan, have been detained since September 21 under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960. Their sister Aleema Khan was taken into custody a day earlier.
The Punjab government extended the sisters’ detention for another 30 days on October 7, a government lawyer informed the Lahore High Court on Monday.
After examining the Punjab home secretary’s report, the court disposed of a petition seeking their recovery and production. Justice Abher Gul Khan observed that the Lahore deputy commissioner, who issued the detention notifications, had not been made a respondent.
The judge held that the directions could not extend beyond the scope of the petition.

Earlier, on September 24, the court declined to suspend the detention notifications concerning Niazi and Uzma immediately. Instead, it issued notices to the respondents and sought their replies before deciding the suspension request.
During those proceedings, Umar argued that both women were homemakers and that a trial court had already cleared Uzma in a case. He submitted that the petition included a copy of that decision.
