Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier today chaired a meeting of the Balochistan apex committee at Governor House Quetta to review progress of implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in the province.

During the meeting Premier Sharif stated that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure implementation of National Action Plan in order to root out the curse of terrorism and extremism from the country.

He told the participants of the meeting that he was ‘Happy to see civilian and military leadership on one page’ and directed the provinces to ensure effective implementation of NAP.

The apex committee meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj-Gen Asim Bajwa, Governor Balochistan Mohammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Balochistan Dr. Malik Baloch, federal cabinet members and other high-ranking officials.

Home Secretary of Balochistan, Akbar Hussain Durrani, briefed the participants of the meeting over the implementation of the NAP and overall law and order situation in Balochistan, according to sources in the Governor’s House.

Durrani informed that meeting that the Balochistan government has referred 53 cases of terrorism to military courts for trial.

He stated that more than 2,000 suspects were apprehended by law enforcement agencies since the launching of the NAP in December 2014.

Security has been tightened in and around Quetta after the arrival of the country’s top civilian and military leadership.

Besides police, FC personnel have been deployed at all sensitive locations of Quetta to ensure peace.

The top leadership of the country launched the National Action Plan and vowed to eradicate the scourge of terrorism and extremism in the aftermath of the attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School.

Earlier yesterday Both Gen. Sharif  and PM Nawaz were in Karachi to monitor the NAP’s implementation in the mega city and the province of Sindh.
