Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally on to move to hunt for new head coach and decided to sack Waqar Younis and launched a global hunt for his replacement in the wake team’s dismal performance in the World Twenty20.
According to PCB sources, Waqar Younis was likely to be fired immediately after the culmination of World Twenty20, however, at odds over Waqar’s successor.
Sources also confirmed that PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan is in favour of hiring a foreign coach for the national team while Najam Sethi is adamant on a local coach.
The PCB has reportedly approached Islamabad United coach Dean Jones and former Sri Lankan coach Tom Moody.
Aqib Javed is being considered a strong contender among local coaches.
Meanwhile, the cricket board has asked for report from team management over listless batting of Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad and Shoaib Malik during team’s must-win match against New Zealand.
Pakistan lost to New Zealand by 22 runs despite a flying start courtesy Sharjeel Khan’s 47 runs off 24 balls. At one stage, Pakistan needed only eight runs an over, but dismal batting by middle order batsmen led to team’s defeat.
