Islamabad: The government on Saturday handed over four new Terms of References (ToRs) to the opposition for the proposed judicial commission to probe offshore business interests of Pakistanis whose names were revealed in the Panama Papers.
According to Geo News, the ToRS incorporate laws concerning income tax, foreign currency, wealth tax, and electoral reforms.
The latest development came when a bipartisan parliamentary committee met to deliberate on the ToRs.
The opposition members of the committee sought time till Tuesday to have a legal review of the ToRs and discuss them with leaders of their parties.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said coming up with new ToRs means the government has withdrawn its earlier terms of references that were rejected by the Supreme Court and the opposition parties.
He said deadlock still persisted in the committee over the ToRs. However, government member and Railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said neither Supreme Court rejected the ToRs nor the government withdrew them.
Rafiq also rejected the impression that there was a deadlock.
