On May 6, 2025, Pakistan’s military launched a rapid counterstrike, destroying an Indian brigade headquarters and downing three Indian jets.
According to a confirmation from DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Pakistan Army’s actions were a response to India’s missile attack on Pakistani territory. The situation has escalated following the attack in Pahalgam on April 22, increasing tensions between India and Pakistan.
On Wednesday, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry announced Pakistan’s armed forces had effectively countered India’s “cowardly” missile strikes targeting Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Bagh, and Muridke, as reported by Dawn and Express Tribune.

Pakistan’s Air Force activated defence systems, preventing Indian aircraft from breaching airspace and downing two jets, while all Pakistani aircraft remained secure. Precision strikes obliterated an Indian brigade headquarters, with sources confirming Pakistan’s airspace is now safe. “Pakistan will respond at a time and place of its choosing,” Chaudhry declared, signalling further action if needed.
The response, which received praise on X for its speed, highlights Pakistan’s military readiness amidst concerns of a broader conflict, following the report of three Pakistani fatalities.

Pahalgam Attack and Rising Tensions
The April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing 26 mostly tourists, triggered the crisis, with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi baselessly accusing Pakistan, per Reuters. India retaliated by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Wagah-Attari border, banning Pakistani goods, and expelling diplomats, actions Pakistan mirrored by halting trade and airspace access. Pakistan’s Senate rejected India’s claims as “politically motivated,” while Iran offered mediation, per Al Jazeera.

With both nations trading blows and global powers urging restraint, the region teeters on the brink. Urgent diplomacy is needed to avert a broader crisis.
