Authorities on Friday released 36 Indian fishermen captured by Pakistan Maritime Security Agency over illegal fishing in Pakistan’s territorial waters.
District Jail Malir officials said an Indian citizen and 35 fishermen were among those released from the prison.
Officials said each prisoner was given shoes, cloths, edibles, other gifts besides Rs.10,000 cash from Edhi Foundation.
The prisoners were later transported to Wagah Border in Lahore to be handed over to Indian authorities.
The release is being seen as a goodwill gesture by Islamabad amid a recent border tension between Pakistan and India. Heads of both the neighboring countries briefly met at 18th summit of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Nepal yesterday.
