ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) warned on Monday that creating fake social media profiles, leaking private images and blackmailing women online are punishable offences under Pakistani law.
The agency urged victims to report online harassment and submit supporting evidence. It also asked the public to help identify individuals involved in cybercrime instead of staying silent.
In a statement shared on social media, the NCCIA identified fake accounts, unauthorised sharing of personal information and misuse of private photographs as serious violations.
“Blackmailing women, leaking private pictures or creating fake profiles are crimes,” the agency warned.
Citizens can report such incidents through the NCCIA’s official helpline, 1799. The agency encouraged affected individuals to preserve relevant evidence when submitting complaints.
It also stressed that protecting women from online harassment requires public cooperation. Victims and witnesses should approach authorities rather than let perpetrators keep misusing digital platforms.
Mirpur Police Arrest Suspect Over Fake TikTok Account
The NCCIA cybercrime warning follows a separately reported case in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where police arrested a suspect over the alleged unauthorised recording and sharing of a girl’s video on TikTok.
The victim’s family approached Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur Khurram Iqbal on September 25 after discovering that someone had uploaded her video without permission.
According to the family’s complaint, an unidentified person recorded the girl while she was travelling to an academy with her brother.
The individual subsequently uploaded the footage through an allegedly fake TikTok account, prompting the family to seek police intervention. Following the complaint, SSP Khurram Iqbal instructed the Cyber Crime Unit Mirpur to investigate and identify the person responsible.
