Netflix subscribers are compelled to terminate their subscriptions due to the streaming service’s heightened crackdown on password-sharing.
As the clampdown on sharing accounts gained momentum, numerous individuals expressed their frustration on Twitter, utilizing the hashtag #CancelNetflix. BGR reported that users even shared screenshots of themselves canceling their subscriptions following the ban on password sharing.
“I’ve been paying for a subscription for 11 years, but oh well, it’s time to move on,” tweeted one viewer.
Another subscriber lamented, “I’ve been a loyal member for a decade. I’m now married with children and have homes in multiple countries. That’s why I upgraded to the Premium plan. Netflix used to be convenient, even if it was overpriced and had mediocre content. They just lost that advantage.”
A third user simply added, “Goodbye, Netflix.”
Furthermore, Amazon Prime Video, a competitor to Netflix, joined in the criticism and mocked Netflix for its previous permissive stance on password-sharing.
However, despite strong protests, Netflix appears resolute in its controversial decision.
“In our experience in Latin America, we anticipate some cancellations in each market when we implement paid sharing, which will impact short-term subscriber growth,” stated the streaming service in last year’s earnings report. “However, as borrowing households begin to activate their accounts and additional member accounts are added, we anticipate an overall improvement in revenue, which is our ultimate goal with all plan and pricing changes.”
