The Peshawar Court’s appellate tribunal granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Murad Saeed, Khurram Zeeshan, and Azam Swati permission to participate in the Senate elections.
The appellate tribunal’s decision came after the PTI leaders contested the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) initial rejection of their nomination papers. The reasons for the initial rejection varied for each candidate.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the tribunal, led by Justice Shakeel Ahmed, announced its decision. It approved Murad Saeed and Khurram Zeeshan for general seats, while Azam Swati was authorized to contest for a technocrat seat.
In a related event on March 22, the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Appellate Tribunal accepted PTI worker Sanam Javed’s appeal, enabling her Senate election candidacy. Following the ECP’s rejection of her nomination papers, Javed appealed to the tribunal, which ruled in her favour after considering arguments from both parties.
