Islamabad: A meat shop and two cafes were sealed whereas another cafe and a restaurant were fined during raids conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Abdul Sattar Isani in Kohsar Market area of the federal capital city on Saturday.

The ICT administration’s official Facebook page claims that Qureshi Meat Shop was sealed after all freezers were found rusty. The page further said that there were no expiry dates found on the preserved meat while, meat trays were open, uncovered and dirty.

Meat stored in the cold storage was scattered on the floor, in “worst hygiene and cleanliness conditions” and meat meant for dogs and pets was kept with meat for human consumption.

Street 1 cafe was sealed as expired bread rolls were found. The dough being used was smelly and rotten and had been stored since many days. Oil being used was also found unsafe for human use. Unhygienic and dirty storage of food items while the deep freezers were also found dirty. Cooked food was found not to be properly stored either.

Another cafe “Table Talk” was sealed after bread was found as “mostly expired”. Condition of stove, inside as well as outside, was found as “worst” while the freezer was extremely dirty and not properly sealed. The staff were also under waged.

Meanwhile, another cafe Gloria Jeans and the Porterhouse restaurant were fined Rs50,000 each. The reasons were the fine were not specified on the website.

A full blown campaign against unhygienic food and conditions in hotels and restaurants got underway in Islamabad early in September this year.

Teams of assistant commissioners (AC) and magistrates have been inspecting eateries including prestigious and high-end outlets that did not meet their standards. Outlets and eateries found in violation of rules and regulations are either fined or sealed according to their respective infringements.

The anti-adulteration drive launched by the ICT after the interior minister had commended the efforts of officials in the Punjab government, who had been monitoring food outlets in Lahore.
