Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, announced that the construction of a new canal from Hub Dam to Karachi is 87% complete.
“We aim to complete this project within a year. By August 2025, it will provide 100 million gallons of water daily to Karachi’s residents,” stated Mayor Wahab. He also highlighted the rehabilitation of the old canal to enhance the water supply.
Mayor Wahab emphasized Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s and Asif Ali Zardari’s commitments to resolving Karachi’s water issues. “Every Pakistan Peoples Party member is committed to resolving these issues,” he said, praising the project team’s dedication.
“The existing canal, nearly 50 years old, could not meet the required water supply due to leakage,” Wahab explained. This situation led to constructing a new canal to address water scarcity effectively.
“The new canal will ensure a supply of 100 million gallons per day and enhance the old canal’s capacity,” he added. He noted that the earthworks are nearly complete, and the project is progressing toward completion.
In related news, Karachi’s water supply resumed after repairs to an 84-inch water line on University Road burst last month, disrupting water distribution across the city.
