Man dies after trying to take ‘selfie’ on Rawalpindi train track

Rawalpindi: A 22-year-old man was fatally hit by a fast-approaching train while attempting to take a ‘selfie’ on the railway track in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Pervaiz, a resident of Rawalpindi’s Dhoke Ratta area.

“The incident took place in Marrir when Pervaiz jumped on the railway track to take a selfie in front of a train that was moving towards him,” a police official said.

Selfie, an act of taking a picture of oneself with a mobile phone, placing the subject center-stage, has in recent years, inspired a spate of risk taking and offensive public behaviour, pushing the boundaries of safety and decorum, whether by dangling from a skyscraper or posing with live explosives.

Earlier in September, a 19-year-old Texas man who was posing with a gun for a social media selfie photo accidentally shot himself and died from the wounds.

“A witness told police he was taking a selfie with a gun and the gun accidentally discharged,” Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said.
