Lebanese envoy Hadi Hachem has condemned the recent explosion of pager devices in Lebanon as a “war crime,” attributing the act to Israeli actions that destabilize the already fragile regional situation. During the United Nations General Assembly, Hachem declared these bombings a severe breach of international humanitarian law.
The explosions claimed at least nine lives, including a child, and injured around 2,750 individuals, with 200 suffering critical injuries. Notably, Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among those wounded and is currently receiving medical treatment.
These blasts targeted Hezbollah members and marked a significant security lapse amid heightened Middle Eastern tensions. The group has attributed the attacks to Israel, promising retribution for the harm caused to its operatives and civilians. This incident escalates ongoing hostilities, including previous Israeli efforts to weaken Hezbollah’s leadership.
The Lebanese government, grappling with the fallout from this catastrophe, has pledged to identify and prosecute those responsible, highlighting the potential for further regional instability.
