Larger bench formed for hearing of PM disqualification case

A larger bench of the Supreme Court was created on Wednesday to hear the case of Prime Minister Nawaz’s disqualification.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk will be heading the bench along with six other judges, including Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.

It is yet to be decided with the court will proceed with the hearing.

Earlier this month, an application seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz, was filed by Insaf Lawyers’ Forum Senior Vice President Gohar Nawaz Sindh, requesting Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk to constitute a larger bench. Justice Khawaja had ordered the Supreme Court office to place the case file before the chief justice, who, if he considered it appropriate, might constitute a larger bench.

On the other hand, earlier in October Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk rejected the plea to form a larger bench of the apex court to hear Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s ongoing disqualification case.
