In Sanghar, Sindh, an influential landlord, has been acquitted in a case involving the amputation of a camel’s leg following an investigation by local authorities.
The investigating officer reported a lack of evidence linking the landlord to the incident, which drew significant public and media attention.
Details from the Sanghar police indicate that the investigative officer cleared the accused, a reputed landlord, and stated that the land where the incident occurred did not belong to him but to another individual. This clarification comes after initial reports mistakenly identified the accused as the landowner where the camel was injured. The investigation also revealed that no direct evidence was found implicating the landlord in the act.
Furthermore, during the police investigation, two axes were recovered, and confessions were obtained from two of the six individuals arrested in connection with the case. These developments led to the judicial magistrate of Shahdadpur extending the remand of the six suspects for an additional two days to investigate their roles in the incident further.
This case initially gained widespread attention after a video surfaced online showing the distressing treatment of the camel, which had wandered into a field and subsequently had its leg severed.
Early reports incorrectly stated that the landlord, affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party, owned the field. Following the public outcry and the viral spread of the incident on social media, the Sindh government swiftly responded by urging immediate legal action to address the incident and ensure justice.
