Karachi: The University of Karachi (KU) will remain closed today (Thursday) to mourn the murder of Assistant Professor Waheed-ur-Rehman who was gunned down in the city.
The university has postponed papers scheduled for today as academic activities will remain suspend in the KU till Friday to mourn the assassination.
Waheed-ur-Rehman, an instructor at KU’s Mass Communication department, was killed when four unidentified attackers riding two motorcycles opened fire on his car in Federal B Area.
Doctors said he received five bullets wounds on his face, neck, chest, abdomen and arm. The attackers managed to flee the scene soon after the attack.
Vehemently condemning the killing, Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) has demanded Rs.50 million compensation for the victim’s family, job for his widow and arrest of the culprits.
Taking notice of the murder, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain have directed authorities to apprehend the criminals at the earliest.
