Klay Thompson has subtly indicated to the Golden State Warriors that he might not extend his contract next summer.
Golden State Warriors’s point guard has shared his contemplations about his future, signalling that his time with the Warriors could close, especially after a challenging period post-Achilles injury and feeling distant from his peak performance. With his contract set to expire next summer, Thompson is prepared for the possibility that the Warriors might not present him with the offer he desires, yet he remains focused on different priorities.
In a candid discussion on Draymond Green’s podcast, Thompson opened up about his recent mental state and outlook on his career.
Thompson emphasized the importance of living in the moment and valuing his journey in the NBA, stating, “I want to re-sign with the Dubs, but my mental health and identifying my priorities at this career juncture are paramount. Although we have much basketball ahead, dwelling on my contract’s expiration would be a disservice. It’s all about staying present and cherishing my NBA tenure.”
Thompson also expressed gratitude towards Green for his unwavering support, highlighting how focusing on the joy of basketball rather than the pressures of contracts or accolades has allowed him to find peace. “Leaning into the camaraderie with teammates, enjoying the simple pleasures like playing cards or ping pong, encapsulates the true beauty of the game for me,” Thompson remarked, showcasing a mindset geared towards passion over professional gains.
