During a police operation in Ajmer Nagri, Karachi, three individuals linked to a targeted attack on a neighbourhood shop were killed.
The suspects are recognized as infamous individuals who had earlier tried to murder shopkeepers Yaqoob and his son Jahanzeb.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Salman Waheed confirmed the suspects’ intent was an assassination, hired for the attack, and investigations are progressing.
The attack, initially mistaken for a robbery, saw the suspects opening fire at the shop, leading to a swift police response. During the exchange, three suspects were fatally shot, while a fourth managed to flee the scene. DSP Waheed noted that the suspects planned to escape to Punjab after the attack, with evidence found on their mobile phones, including tickets.
Authorities recovered crucial data from the suspects’ mobile devices, identifying the deceased as Gulfam Anjum, Kashif Waqas, and Aas Muhammad. Wanted in both Punjab and Karachi, their crimes range from robbery to murder. Police are now expanding their search efforts from Karachi to Lahore following leads from the incident.
The police investigation revealed that a land dispute involving the Meo community in Punjab was the motive behind the assassination attempt. The assailants were provided with photographs of their targets, suggesting premeditation in the attack.
This incident, captured on video, displayed a dramatic confrontation, with suspects arriving on motorcycles and opening fire indiscriminately, creating chaos and panic. The quick response of the police, who engaged the suspects in a shootout, was crucial in preventing further violence and restoring order in the area.
