Google has introduced Workspace intelligence, a new AI-powered system designed to connect emails, chats, files, and projects across Google Workspace and provide users with more contextual support throughout their daily work.
The company unveiled the feature at its Cloud Next ’26 conference on Wednesday, April 22, presenting it as a major step in bringing Gemini-powered assistance deeper into productivity tools. With Workspace intelligence, Google will sync data across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Chat so AI agents can better understand what a user is trying to accomplish.
One of the headline features is Ask Gemini in Google Chat, which works like an integrated command hub inside Chat. It allows users to request a daily briefing, create documents and presentations, retrieve files from simple descriptions, and schedule meetings without leaving the chat interface.
Google said the feature also works with third-party business platforms, including Asana, Jira, and Salesforce, expanding its usefulness for teams managing work across multiple systems.
The company also announced several related updates across Workspace apps. In Sheets, users can build spreadsheets with natural-language prompts. Google is also adding infographic generation to Docs, allowing users to embed business data directly into documents. Meanwhile, Slides will let users generate full slide decks in a single pass using company templates.
Alongside the productivity upgrades, Google emphasised security and compliance. Officials said Workspace Intelligence runs on compliant infrastructure and does not use customer data for advertising or machine learning without permission. The rollout also includes administrative controls, client-side encryption, and sovereign data controls for customers in the United States and the European Union.

Google also announced its eighth-generation TPU chips as part of the broader Cloud Next update. According to the company, the new chips deliver 2.8 times better price-performance, while the TPU 8i for inference offers 80% better performance per dollar.
The latest announcements suggest Google is deepening its push to integrate AI across workplace tools while trying to reassure enterprise customers on security, control, and data protection. The company is expected to introduce more features as the rollout continues.
