Google has launched a new AI feature in Google Drive, enabling users to interact with Gemini about their cloud-stored files. Rolled out on Thursday, this functionality allows paid Google Workspace subscribers to gain insights and summaries from documents and files, enhancing productivity and file management.

The new feature, detailed in a Google blog post, mirrors Notebooklm’s capabilities, letting users chat with Gemini about selected files. Users open the Gemini side panel in Drive, choose files for analysis, and ask questions, like summarising a legal document or extracting insights from a sales deck. This follows Google’s recent AI video transcription tool, which added searchable captions to videos.

Gemini’s responses are “grounded,” meaning they draw solely from the selected files. This reduces errors and ensures accuracy by avoiding external or unreliable sources, making it a reliable tool for professional and educational use.

Available exclusively to paid Google Workspace subscribers, the feature supports Business Standard, Enterprise Standard, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium users. The rollout began Thursday, with full access expected within 15 days for eligible accounts.

Google Drive’s new Gemini AI feature empowers users to unlock deeper insights from their files, streamlining workflows for professionals and educators. As Google continues integrating AI, this tool marks a significant step in enhancing cloud storage functionality. Eligible subscribers can explore this feature now, with broader impacts expected as adoption grows.
