Google can help you find your lost phone

Nomophobia is the term given to the panic or anxiety felt when one is unable to locate their mobile phones. Once again, Google comes to the rescue by helping you find your phone when you simply type ‘I lost my phone’ on its search engine.

The site has introduced a new feature which it is adding to its My Account hub. It enables you to see the location of your device or disable access to your accounts if you fear your phone may have been stolen.

Simply type “I lost my phone” and you will be directed to a special page that lists all the mobile phone devices that are linked to your Google account.

Once there, choose the model that is missing and then look up its location on the map or lock the screen to deter further access should someone else finds it.

Google has also added more user friendly ways of accessing the account hub which shows much of the information and searches that the company has stored for that particular person. People can simply say ‘OK Google, show me my account’ and they will be directed to their hub and can then decide which information they want the search engine to retain.

Apple also offers the same feature as Google. The tool plays a sound or switches to ‘lost mode’ so that anyone who finds it can follow instructions on how to reunite the phone with its original owner.
