CIA Director Bill Burns and UK MI6 chief Richard Moore warned on Saturday that the world order faces unprecedented threats reminiscent of the Cold War era.
In a Financial Times op-ed, they emphasized the crucial partnership between their agencies as they confront threats primarily from Russia, China, and the Middle East.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza is particularly alarming. Speaking at an FT conference in London, Burns mentioned active collaboration with Egyptian and Qatari mediators to outline a ceasefire proposal, which is expected to be detailed soon.
Both the United States and the UK, as significant financial and military backers of Ukraine, continue to support its resistance against the Russian invasion that began in February 2022. In the op-ed, they stressed the importance of perseverance and joint efforts to counter Russian intelligence’s disruptive sabotage across Europe.
They also highlighted using advanced AI and cloud technologies to manage and analyze extensive data collections.

This discussion comes just before UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s upcoming visit to Washington on September 13, where discussions with US President Joe Biden will include ongoing support for Ukraine and efforts to secure a truce in Gaza, as noted by the White House on Friday.
Amidst these talks, the UK has announced the suspension of 30 arms export licenses to Israel, citing potential violations of international law in war-torn Gaza, marking a shift in stance between the two nations regarding Israel.
