Islamabad: Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday further extended physical remand of accused Moazzam Ali, Mohsin Syed and Khalid Shamim for 14 days and handed them over to FIA custody in MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq murder case.

The court directed the Federal Investigation Agency to produce the accused on next hearing on January 18.

During the today’s proceedings, Mansoor Afridi, the counsel of Moazzam Ali argued that his client was detained illegally since December 23 and FIA’s own documents have proven it.

He said Imran Farooq was killed in 2010 and the case was lodged in 2015 besides he was murdered in London and FIR was registered in Pakistan.

The counsel raised question how state of Pakistan becomes a party in the case as it had itself put head money on Dr Imran Farooq, who had fled to London.

The state of Pakistan had initially placed head money of Rs700,000, that was raised to Rs5 million through an advertisement in the newspaper, he said.

He went on to say that murder charges could not be framed against the arrested accused.
