Imane Khelif’s leaked medical report has ignited a new controversy by suggesting the Paris Olympics gold medalist may be a “biological male.”
The report, which points to ambiguous genitalia and secondary male characteristics, implies Khelif has an XY chromosome pattern and internal testicles, conditions associated with 5-alpha reductase deficiency.
This revelation has intensified the ongoing dispute between the International Boxing Association (IBA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Previously, the IBA prohibited Khelif and Lin Yu-ting from participating in Chinese Taipei events, yet the IOC permitted their participation in the Olympics.
The IBA President, Umar Kremlev, has publicly demanded an apology from IOC President Thomas Bach, accusing him of compromising sporting integrity by allowing a male to compete in a women’s event. “The IOC has violated all sports rules. Tests have confirmed Khelif’s status. I insist that Thomas Bach personally and publicly apologize for this oversight,” Kremlev stated.
Amid this contention, a medical report leaked to ‘Le Correspondent’ corroborated earlier findings, leading to renewed calls from Kremlev for Bach to “kneel and apologize.” He holds Bach directly responsible for the oversight, which he claims has led to unfair competition and harm to female competitors.
The issue has sparked widespread reaction online, with many sporting figures and public personalities supporting the IBA’s stance. The debate continues as the global community awaits further responses from the involved parties.
