China urged the United States and Iran to “meet halfway” on the US-Iran ceasefire as new strikes and regional attacks raised pressure on the fragile truce.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the call during an open debate at the United Nations Security Council, Chinese state media said Wednesday. His remarks came as Iran accused Washington of breaching the ceasefire and warned of retaliation.
US forces had attacked missile sites in southern Iran and boats allegedly trying to lay mines, moves that threatened efforts to end the war.
The United Arab Emirates welcomed a UN Security Council statement expressing grave concern over a May 17 drone strike on the Barakah nuclear power facility. The UAE mission to the UN said the council called for a lasting halt to attacks on civilians, civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear sites.
The Security Council condemned the Barakah attack on Tuesday and said it violated international law. The council did not assign blame.
The UAE said six drones were launched from Iraq last week, including one that caused a fire at the nuclear plant. Iraq hosts powerful Iran-backed militia groups that have claimed attacks during the wider conflict.

Hezbollah said it carried out 32 attacks against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon on Tuesday. The group said its fighters clashed with Israeli troops and launched rocket, artillery and drone strikes near Zawtar al-Sharqiya.
