Private schools across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will close tomorrow, Thursday, following a strike call from the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee.
The committee has declared an indefinite strike starting December 5 in response to ongoing regional issues.
In support of this strike, the All Private Schools Association and the All Azad Kashmir Traders Association have decided to shut their doors tomorrow. This means that private educational institutions and business establishments will remain closed.
Conversely, the AJK Ministry of Education has directed all government-run schools to remain open despite the strike.
This strike follows a series of protests by the Awami Joint Action Committee earlier in the year against rising inflation in AJK. These protests concluded in May after the government agreed to the committee’s demands.
It’s important to note that AJK has recently been the site of significant unrest. Just last year, violent clashes during a comprehensive wheel-jam and shutter-down strike resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to several others. More recently, clashes in Muzaffarabad this Monday led to one death and two injuries, underscoring the ongoing volatility in the region.
