Rohit Sharma’s ODI plans could end after India’s England series, The Indian Express reported, making Sunday’s third match at Lord’s a possible international farewell.
The newspaper reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s senior selection committee decided to proceed without Sharma as it prepares for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Selectors and India head coach Gautam Gambhir informed Sharma of their plans during a meeting last week, according to the report. It said the 39-year-old wanted to continue playing One-Day International cricket after working on his fitness.
The report said selectors would give Yashasvi Jaiswal more ODI opportunities as India builds its next World Cup squad. The final decision over his future remains with Sharma.
The BCCI has not publicly confirmed that Sharma will leave its ODI setup. The official squad announcement named him for all three matches in the India in England ODI Series 2026, with Shubman Gill as captain.
India will face the England men’s cricket team in the series finale at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on July 19. The official BCCI fixture lists the start for 3 p.m. IST, equivalent to 2:30 p.m. PKT and 10:30 a.m. BST.
