Have you ever overlooked unread messages in your WhatsApp chats because you forgot to revisit them? With the new reminder notification feature, this issue will soon be a thing of the past.

This feature will be released in a forthcoming update. For now, as reported by WABetaInfo, beta testers can access it in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.24.25.29, available on the Google Play Store.

Previously confined to status updates, the feature from the Meta-owned app now allows users to receive reminders for unseen messages from specific contacts. An algorithm selects these contacts automatically based on the frequency of interactions.

Understanding that this algorithm operates only within the current WhatsApp installation is crucial. If a user reinstalls the app, it must recalculate these interactions because the data does not persist in backups or on the server.

In practice, if a user regularly interacts with someone but fails to check a message from them, WhatsApp can prompt a reminder about this unread message. This ensures that the reminders are timely and not overwhelming, adhering to WhatsApp’s goal to keep notifications relevant and minimally intrusive.

While this feature is currently available to beta testers, it is expected to be rolled out to a broader audience soon.
