Meta Platforms, formerly Facebook, announced the debut of a new feature named WhatsApp Channels. This tool transforms the app into a “private broadcast messaging product.” Initially, only users in Colombia and Singapore will have access to Channels, with a broader rollout to other countries expected in the forthcoming months.
The new feature lets users track updates and content related to their interests, such as hobbies, sports teams, or local authorities’ announcements. Privacy remains paramount, with neither the channel admin’s profile photo and contact details nor the follower’s phone numbers visible. Among the global launch partners for Channels are the World Health Organization, FC Barcelona, and Manchester City.
