Pakistan’s leg-spinner Usman Qadir has announced his retirement from international cricket. Over his career, he played in 25 T20 Internationals and one ODI. The 31-year-old shared his decision in a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to represent his country.
As the son of the legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, Usman reflected on his journey and thanked his coaches, teammates, and fans for their support.
“It has been an immense honour to represent my country,” Qadir wrote. “I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”
Qadir’s career also faced obstacles, including frustrations from being left out of the national team. In May 2024, he expressed concerns about former PCB technical director Mohammad Hafeez, accusing him of influencing his exclusion from the squad.
“As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me,” he stated.
Usman Qadir ended his international career with 29 wickets and an economy rate of 7.95 in T20Is. His last appearance for Pakistan was in 2022, and he has been playing for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup since then.
