Travis Scott, an American rapper, was arrested in Miami Beach on charges of trespassing and disorderly intoxication, as reported by The Guardian.
The 33-year-old, legally known as Jacques Bermon Webster, was detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center following an incident on a yacht.
Miami Beach police were called to a disturbance involving a fight on the vessel. Upon arrival, officers found Scott by the dock, shouting at those on board. Despite orders to remain seated, Scott repeatedly stood up, ignoring police commands.
Sergeant Lemus of the Miami Beach police instructed Scott to vacate the area or face arrest. Despite leaving, Scott returned five minutes later, resuming his disruptive behaviour. His actions reportedly disturbed the peace at the marina and nearby residences, escalating to a public disturbance. When questioned about alcohol consumption, Scott’s response was, “It’s Miami,” acknowledging he had been drinking.
However, Scott’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, stated that the arrest stemmed from a misunderstanding, emphasizing that there was no physical altercation.
According to NBC News, Cohen thanked the authorities for cooperating swiftly and amicably in resolving the situation. In a light-hearted response to the incident, Scott shared an edited mugshot on his Instagram story, featuring sunglasses and headphones.
The arrest occurs just days before Scott begins his European tour, Circus Maximus, in the Netherlands. It also follows a troubled period for Scott, who was previously implicated in a deadly crowd rush at the 2021 Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, which resulted in 10 deaths and 300 injuries. Although lawsuits have accused him of negligence, Scott has denied any responsibility for the tragedy.
The incident coincides with another celebrity legal issue, as pop star Justin Timberlake was recently arrested on drunk driving charges in Sag Harbor, New York. Timberlake pleaded not guilty and was released without bail.
