Business and all other activities ground to a halt in Sindh as news of MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s arrest spread like wild fire.
Reports said London Metropolitan police raided the home of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s chief and arrested him on money laundering charges. Sources said his residence has been sealed by the Scotland Yard which is investigating several cases against the MQM chief, including the murder of MQM’s former leader, Imran Farooq.
Soon after Pakistani media channels aired the news, shops, markets, filling stations, offices and education institutions started shutting down in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and other towns of Sindh.
Police and Rangers started patrolling in the city to maintain law and order. The government has put law-enforcing agencies on high alert in the wake of any untoward situation.
