Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has declined the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offer to serve as the national team’s vice-captain.
Sources report that the selection committee extended the invitation to Afridi, but he declined the role.
Shaheen Shah Afridi had briefly assumed the captaincy of the T20I team following Babar Azam’s resignation. Azam stepped down as all-format captain after the national team’s underwhelming performance at the ODI World Cup in India the previous year.
Afridi’s stint as Pakistan’s captain, however, was brief. He led the team in only one international series, a T20I series in which Pakistan lost 4-1 to New Zealand.
The PCB has stated that the decision to relieve Shaheen Shah Afridi from his captaincy responsibilities was influenced by a strategy to manage player workloads effectively, aiming to maintain optimum performance levels.
