Citing plastic as a source of cancer and other fatal diseases, Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced a ban on the production, distribution, and trade of plastic from June 5.

Marriyum stated that plastic use increases environmental pollution. Thus, on June 5, a crackdown will start against factories manufacturing illegal products.

Punjab Govt is now going to ban the single use plastic industry + whole packaging industry.
Pakistan's packaging (Paper+ Plastic) industry has an approximate size of USD~5.53bln (PKR~897bln) in FY20.

The Punjab government follows Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directive for the “No to Plastic” campaign.

The campaign will strictly restrict the use of plastic bags in hotels and eateries.

The government has reportedly completed arrangements to enforce the plastic ban strategy.

Chief Minister @MaryamNSharif special directives lead to significant government actions in the "Say No to Plastic" campaign.

Ahead of Earth Day 2024, the Punjab government decided on April 19 to launch environment-friendly initiatives.

As part of this initiative, the CM endorsed a comprehensive ban on plastic bags from June 5.

During an April review meeting on these initiatives, Marriyum emphasized the campaign’s goal to raise public awareness about the health risks of plastic pollution.

She highlighted the urgency of banning polythene bags due to their harmful environmental impact and contribution to respiratory ailments and other severe health conditions.
