Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Political Committee has decided to boycott the voting process for constitutional amendments in both houses.
According to the official statement, the committee will also protest against any PTI National Assembly or Senate members who participate in the voting.
The PTI Political Committee argues that those currently in control of the mandate lack the moral, democratic, and constitutional grounds to amend the constitution. They insist that PTI members in the Senate and National Assembly must adhere to party policy and directives from the party leader.
Furthermore, the committee plans to organize peaceful protests outside the residences of members who defy party policy.
In a related development, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan revealed concerns that two PTI senators, Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Saleem, might vote in favour of the amendments, contrary to party policy. “I think our two senators are going to vote against the party policy,” stated Barrister Khan.
Simultaneously, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that the draft constitutional package is set for presentation before the federal cabinet for approval. He noted that the draft includes suggestions from JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, which were discussed thoroughly within the cabinet.
This announcement followed a series of strategic meetings held at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence in Islamabad. Key political figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also visited.
