Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed the office of the Attorney General of Pakistan and the top legal team to proactively pursue all cases where some courts have granted stay orders against executions of terrorists.
According to a spokesperson, the prime minister said that the government is committed to eliminating terrorism at any cost. “There will be no mercy for those who have killed our children, citizens and soldiers,” he added.
It seems the government is worried about the poor ratio of disposal of cases from anti-terrorism courts, and that the convicted approach higher courts and are able to get stay orders.
According to sources, the government is committed to carrying out all recommendations of the parliamentary committee that suggests administrative and legal changes in the criminal justice system. The committee is in session and will finalize recommendations over the next seven days.
