Meta Introduces AI-Enabled Coding Tests to Job Interviews

Meta is transforming its hiring process by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into coding tests for job applicants, a move aligned with the company’s expanding ambitions in the AI sector.

According to 404 Media, Meta plans to require shortlisted candidates to utilise AI assistants during their coding interviews rather than merely relying on AI to screen resumes. Internal communications reveal that candidates will engage directly with AI tools during tests, reflecting the evolving developer environment expected in the near future.

To assess this new format, Meta is inviting current employees to participate in “mock AI-enabled interviews.” An internal memo shared earlier this month explained that this innovative approach not only mirrors the real-world developer setting where AI tools are commonplace but also reduces the effectiveness of cheating based on large language models (LLMs).

Meta’s invitation encouraged staff volunteers to contribute feedback to help shape the final interview design, noting that the questions remain under development.

This change coincides with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s recent comments on the Joe Rogan podcast, where he predicted that by 2025, AI would perform at the level of a mid-level engineer capable of writing code efficiently.

Earlier in 2025, Meta underwent major restructuring, including the layoff of 3,600 employees due to underperformance. With the launch of its Superintelligence Labs, the company aims to cultivate a workforce highly proficient in generative AI technologies and capable of delegating tasks to AI-driven tools.

This new AI-assisted interview format signals Meta’s commitment to embedding AI deeper within its operational and hiring strategies as the industry moves toward an AI-enhanced future.
